Getting to the Ranch | Preparing for Your Vacation
Once we hold your cabin for you, we will wait to receive your deposit check of $300 per person made out to Rainbow Trout Ranch and mailed to the ranch at P.O. Box 458, Antonito, CO 81120.
You will then receive confirmation from us, and about six weeks prior to your arrival, we will mail you our pre-vacation packet. This has plenty of detailed information about your stay at the ranch as well as a portion for you to fill out and mail back to us regarding riding abilities and requests, dietary requirements, special needs, birthdays or anniversaries we can help celebrate or anything else we need to know ahead of time so we can ensure the best possible vacation for you and your family.
Of course you are always so welcome to call or email anytime should questions or concerns arise. We look forward to your being at the ranch!
Getting to the Ranch:
The southern portion of the ranch is less than a dozen miles from the New Mexico border. And many great arrival points are not far: Albuquerque 185 miles / Denver 240 miles / Santa Fe 135 miles / Colorado Springs 185 miles / Taos 70 miles / Alamosa 55 miles.
If you are flying into the ranch, we suggest you consider one of the following:
1. Fly into Albuquerque on Saturday, rent a car and drive up to Santa Fe or Taos to spend the night. Enjoy a little time there and take a leisurely drive up to the ranch the next afternoon. It's a spectacular drive.
2. Fly into Denver on Saturday, rent a car and drive down to Colorado Springs to spend the night. Enjoy a little time there and take a leisurely drive down to the ranch the next afternoon.
3. Fly into Denver and connect with a flight into Alamosa where you can rent a car or arrange for ranch transportation.

We will mail you an Information Packet prior to your arrival which includes specific directions to the ranch. However, please feel free to call or email anytime with questions on driving times and distances, worthwhile sights or parks, or indeed, anything at all.
Remember, be sure to drink plenty of water on your way to the ranch and while you are here. At this altitude it is very important to stay well hydrated.

Preparing for your vacation
Since nights can get down around 40 degrees, you will need jeans, sweaters, sweat shirts, and a light to medium weight jacket. On the other extreme, days will normally be between 75 - 85 degrees so don't forget your swimsuits, short sleeved shirts, shorts and tennis shoes. You might like to know that we have a "fancy dinner" for adults during the week. Casual dress is fine, but if you'd like to show off some of your fancy Western clothes, you are more than welcome to do so. Short rain showers are common, so bring heavyweight raingear (lightweight raingear like ponchos can cause problems in windy conditions). We don't let the rain stop our activities!
Other items that will be useful: sunscreen, cowboy hat or baseball cap, chapstick and a canteen or water bottle. We stock these and other basic items such as candy bars, pop, t-shirts and a supply of fishing equipment.
Our lodge, dining room, and cabins are designated as nonsmoking. We only allow smoking on the porches where ashtrays are provided.
Those who plan to ride should bring either riding boots or a boot/shoe with a heel. There are riding tennis shoes available now although regular tennis shoes and lace ups are poor for riding. We do have a “boot box” at the ranch and you are welcome to borrow a pair should you find a good fit. You may also want to bring long sleeved shirts for bushwhacking rides, tall socks to prevent chaffing and some people do bring chaps although they are not necessary. Many people do some riding or take lessons before coming to the ranch - this is a benefit but certainly not a must as we do provide excellent instruction.
For September or shorter stays: plan to arrive any time in the afternoon on day of arrival and check out by 9:30 am on the day of departure.
